Tom Paterson

Tom Paterson is the founder and developer of the StratOp and LifePlan processes. Both have impacted Intentional Churches deeply. Tom’s Strategic Operational planning process is at the core of our Intentional Growth Planning & Coaching. Our work is truly powered by StratOp, and Intentional Churches is the direct result of LifePlans for both founders.

Tom was born in 1925 in New Jersey. He is a Christ-follower and master strategic thinker. His accomplishments are too many to list in total, but a few highlights include holding the first patent on the ATM PIN technology, developing the first lightweight camcorder, working to design and engineer Space Mountain for Disney, and being commissioned by Ronald Reagan to study and develop economic relations with China.

Tom had a successful career at IBM, RCA, and Northrop Grumman before launching his own consulting practice. He worked with the likes of IBM, Boeing, JLG, and Lockheed Martin. It was during these years, and alongside Peter Drucker, that he developed the StratOp and LifePlanning processes. Peter Drucker called Tom “the greatest process thinker in the world.”

While Tom’s life is marked by great success, it is also marked by great tragedy. At age 18 he married Ginny, and together they had four children and adopted three. Three of their children died tragically and prematurely, and Ginny passed away from cancer in the late 1990’s. Ultimately, these losses have greatly strengthened Tom’s relationship with and trust in Christ and the ultimate hope of Heaven.

Today, Tom lives in Fort Collins, Colorado. He remains focused on passing on his process to those who are passionate about helping individuals and organizations discover and live their unique purpose. His personal passion now is to help others totally surrender to Christ and live the life they were meant to live.
